Scottie's Seminars and Classes

For an enjoyable, relaxing SEMINAR experience, paint Bauernmalerei with Scottie! She specializes in the happy, colorful folk art of Germany, Austria and Switzerland called Bauernmalerei, or Bavarian Folk Art, and is the author of seven books and a video on the subject. Throughout the twenty-seven years she has been travel teaching, she has taught seminars all over the United States, Canada,  Australia, Japan and Singapore as well as classes in Germany. All seminars focus on learning traditional as well as modern techniques of painting Bauernmalerei while completing several intermediate projects. The only prerequisite is the ability to paint strokes with a round brush using acrylics (no side-loading or floating)! Bauernmalerei is easy to learn and fun to paint.

Beginning and Intermediate
Bavarian Folk Art Weekends!

at The Apple Tree, Springfield, Virginia (near Washington D.C.)

The Apple Tree is keeping a list of interested students.
Call and reserve your space (703-321-9311).
You will be notified when a date has been set (both classes will be on weekends).

Bavarian Folk Art (Bauernmalerei) based on Scottie's Books 1 and 4 will be taught in a series of two weekends, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at two different levels: the Beginning Level, is one 2-day weekend, Friday and Saturday. Click here to see the Beginning Level projects. The Intermediate Level is one 3-day weekend, (Friday through Sunday). Click here to see the Intermediate Level projects. (Similar projects will be taught that were formerly taught in the four and six week series but there will be more time to complete each project in class during the weekend classes.) It is necessary to sign up with the folks at The Apple Tree before the beginning of each level. (Scroll below to register).

CREATIVE FREEDOM! Feel free to choose the colors that are on the projects or choose colors that work better for you! It takes more thought and consideration to choose your own colors (ask Scottie if you need suggestions). It's really fun, creative and a great learning experience too!

LEARN FREEHANDING! As a bonus learning experience, the Beginning level of Bauernmalerei is taught using the freehand technique of sketching with a chalk pencil rather than tracing. You’ll be so excited when you learn how to put together your own designs using any wood piece available instead of having to rely on tracing a specific pattern for a specific wood piece! Easy and fun! NO drawing experience is necessary or desirable! Just bring an open mind and a desire to relax, learn something new, have fun and paint beautiful folk art! Bauernmalerei IS NOT uptight painting! The Intermediate classes involve sketching or tracing, your choice!

IMPORTANT PREREQUISITE: Any beginning stroke class which teaches basic comma strokes, wood preparation and basecoating. We’ll concentrate on the basics in the Beginning Level Weekend, but pre-knowledge of how to make strokes (even if you are not very good at it) will help you progress quickly. If you have painted strokework before it is possible to take the Intermediate Weekend without taking the Beginning Weekend but it is not recommended. However, it will be up to you and your ability to jump into the middle of things and go with it!

TO REGISTER: Call The Apple Tree at 1-800-621-9311 or 703-321-9311. At that time you will be sent the Supply and Prep sheets and a basecoating pattern to get you started.

OUT-OF-TOWN FOLKS WELCOME! The Apple Tree is located about 30 minutes from Regan National Airport and about 45 minutes from Dulles International Airport. Rental cars are available. There are motels nearby and the friendly folks at The Apple Tree will be happy to help you with details. Come and enjoy one or two fun painting weekends in Virginia! Spouses and families are welcome to come and sightsee in nearby Washington DC or Northern Virginia! Fun for everyone!
